Geisha
are female professional entertainers whose knowledge
of traditional dance, music and instruments win
them the respect. Although geisha used to be seen
everywhere in Japan, nowadays in only a few cities
including Kyoto and Kanazawa are they still active.
Kyoto has five geisha enclaves including the most
renowned area of Gion, whereas Kanazawa has three,
most notably in the Higashi (Eastern) Pleasure District. |
