Situated between the Tateyama and Ushiro Tateyama Ranges in the Northern Japanese Alps, the Kurobe Gorge is the deepest V-shaped ravine in Japan with a depth between the river and mountains ranging from 1500 to 2000 meters, molded by the highest level of erosion seen in the country. With its source there, the Korobe River has carried the most water of any Japanese river and is notable for the greatest amount of precipitation in the river's upper reaches, including both snow and rain.
