Carved by the Daishoji
River, which flows along Yamanaka Onsen, a spa resort
town in the mountains, Kakusenkei Gorge affords
you a pleasurable 1.5-kilometer stroll featuring
three atmospheric bridges in intriguing shapes:
Korogi Cricket Bridge, Ayatori Cat's Cradle Bridge
and Kurotani Black Valley Bridge. You will glimpse
strangely shaped rocks caused by the erosion of
the sandstone along the way. Stark difference of
landscapes can be seen in the four seasons: trees
dressed in pink cherry blossoms in spring, strikingly
green trees in summer, autumn foliage and romantic
snow scenes in winter. |

We recommend
strolling along the gorge following 1.5 kilometers
of footpaths or for a change walking on the way
back through the hot spring town to pop into some
local shops specializing in craftworks such as Yamanaka
Lacquerware. |
