Commencing operation in 1867, Ryokan Asadaya is a long-established inn that is located in the centre of Kanazawa near the Omi-cho market, which locals regard as the kitchen of all Kanazawa people, and Kenroku-en, one of the three most famous gardens in Japan. Ryokans used to be available everywhere in Japan for travelers to take a rest and feel at home in a cozy atmosphere. Amid the growing trend that a great many ryokans nowadays operate on a large scale, Ryokan Asadaya only features five guest rooms in order to focus on the high quality of service for every customer. It is impossible to find another small, luxury inn of this kind in the centre of town.
You will find yourself welcomed by a stone pavement with stone lanterns on the right. This traditional Japanese design invites you to the serene world far removed from everyday life, making you forget about the fact that you are in the middle of the city. Each guest room features pillars and a torii (a gatewary to a Shinto shrine), all of which are made of cedar wood from Noshiro, the best of its kind in Japan, and a small garden in which you can appreciate the transition of one season to another.

Ryokan Asadaya boasts of its close association with the ruling Maeda family in the Edo Period. The owner's ancestors were privileged to own a sword and their own surname when the majority of people belonging to the same social status were not allowed to do so. The ryokan has a collection of 200 sword guards that originate from the Maeda family to prove its special affiliation.
