| Ishikawa
Prefecture is proud of its 36 different kinds of traditional
arts and crafts. Kanazawa-haku is notable for the
craft of beating gold into a wafer-thin leaf only a one-10000th
millimeter thick, and for its gilded tableware and accessories.
Kutani porcelain craftsmen make a pot on a potter's wheel
quickly, using a clod of earth. Wajima-nuri (Wajima
lacquerware) has a solid feeling and an elegant beauty,
applying numerous coats of urushi, the lacquer
or vanish used to coat and strengthen the wooden objects.
